Kindred Mural Project

mural2_edited.jpg

Hello!

Would your business like to be featured in support of the new community mural? The mural is UP and is a mosaic representation of our fine city.

The mural is designed to be interactive and “living” through a QR code that can help put the city history in a place for all to learn! This online information option will allow people to look at the mural and read more about what inspired each item to be included in this representation. If your business would like to participate see info below!

The community mural is located on Elm Street in Kindred on the old CCEC building thanks to the generosity of owner Rick Nymark. Artist and screenprinter Eric A. Johnson, Big Oak Press, was hired in part by a grant from the ND Council on the Arts to help bring our downtown business district to life honoring the past while celebrating the future. The community was involved every step of the way by offering ideas for the mural, history of the city of Kindred, and perspective on why people want to live here today. Artist Eric thoughtfully considered the information gathered and put together the mural (on image below) in his style with each piece representing information the community shared. Community volunteers helped prep the mural for painting on 5x5' polytab sheets that were painted at a community painting party and then overpainted to be hung on the brick.

The mural represents Kindred and answers the question “Where I’m From.” YOU have a chance to be a part of history! Your donation of $150 will get you:

  • your business name printed on the physical plaque mounted on the mural building

  • your business information on the QR link (available on the mural plaque and City of Kindred website).

  • Information will be submitted by you and should contain a photo of your building/business, the date your businesses started in Kindred, any business or family history you’d like memorialized

  • Visit the KAAP website to complete a printable form or online form to become a Business Sponsor

Our goal is to hang the plaque by September 19 in time for the homecoming parade. Your donation and submission of $150 to have your business information included would be due by September 14.

This endeavor is supported by a collaboration of the City of Kindred, Kindred Parks & Rec, Kindred Community Club and the Kindred Area Arts Partnership. Please reach out to any of our community mural members for more information.

Thank you!
